winterization

If you live where it drops below freezing and your boat is more complex than a canoe or dinghy, you should winterize. Failing to winterize can cost you money and time with avoidable repairs and could make you miss the start of the boating season.

Winterizing a boat is an essential process that could save you making necessary repairs to your boat in the spring. If you do not winterize your boat, any water droplets left could freeze, expand, and crack the components they were in. This could cause anything from blowing off a hose to completely ruining your engine. Boats and motors require some maintenance after a summer of use to keep them running at their prime.  We can get you set for winter to save time and money later on!

Winterization can include:

  • Changing the engine oil and oil filter
  • Checking / changing the gearcase lubricant in an outboard or sterndrive
  • Changing fuel filters or spark plugs
  • Fuel treatment
  • Other maintenance specified by the engine or boat manufacturer

Manufacturer's recommend regular maintenance either annually or every 100 hours.

Even if you don’t fully winterize your boat,

you should take care of annual maintenance.
